Dragons
The rulers of the past and who knows, rulers of the present even if they hide in the shadows
.

Everybody knows what a dragon is: an enormous, fierce, bloodthirsty creature appearing in fairy tales and legends as an accessory whose main function is to set off the bravery of the knight challenging him. The dragon is an obscure, mysterious character, described only in broad terms, and is little more than a foil to enhance the hero's valor. When most people think "dragon" they most likely think of the Western dragon. Western dragons are usually portrayed as evil, mean, and bloodthirsty. They were also known to have huge hoards of gold and jewels hidden in their lairs. The most famous dragons are portrayed as Western-type dragons: St. George and the Dragon
, Beowulf and the Dragon, and Draco in the movie DragonHeart. Some stories have the western dragon as the Devil in Christianity. Other stories in legend say that eating a dragons' heart will give the consumer the power of understanding birds, eating the dragons' tongue enables the person to win any argument, and rubbing the dragons' blood on skin will protect against stab wounds. Another myth references Vlad Drakul to mean Son of the Dragon, or Devil. The end of the dragon came with Christianity, and knights that were eager to prove their faith. The knights quickly discovered that dragon-hunting was very profitable, and soon most the dragons in the world were destroyed in a very short time. Vikings had dragon figureheads on the prow of their ships. The dragons on the ships were believed to endow keen site and cunning to the Viking warriors. Today the Welsh flag still has a red dragon on a green/white background, and the red dragon is their national symbol. But the dragon is something else.

They are an admirable, intelligent and educated creature, who leads a most interesting life. They have some fascinating characteristics in addition to those occasional glimpses we are given through fairy tales and legend. Dragons can be found in many different cultures all around the world and have just as many descriptions. Yet regardless of the descriptions attached to it humankind seemed to have a subconscious knowledge of the dragon and its powers. Dragon is derived from the Latin word Draco, and Dragon comes from a verb meaning to see, to look at or to flash. Dragon has been used in many different fields such as astrology, astronomy, alchemy, magic, heraldry, psychology and the studies of dreams. Since humans began to record things, such as the first known written language of Sumerian, dragons have been found.
Also the Chinese culture declare themselves

Descendants of the Dragon.

Take note through all history the Dragon is the one creature that has "survived" through myth and legend when many others were lost. Not everyone is supposed to work Dragon Magic. Before you work with dragons, take some time to look at yourself. Do you like dragons for who they are, or are you just interested in power? Do you feel you would do better in other area's of magic? If you feel dragon magic is not for you, then don't do it. Do your research. Study the myths and legends. In these stories are your keys to unlocking the door and finding your dragon. Continue such study with meditation and placing a dragon item on your altar. A picture , statue or some like item to help you with this will do just fine. There are not tons of Dragon spirits wandering around these other plans of existence waiting to be found by seekers to personally guard them from trouble. Dragons represents a universal spirit of immense power that not all people are ready to use. The Dragon is the ultimate representation of the forces of Mother Nature, the greatest divine force on Earth. One can call forth a dragon or sometimes Dragons will choose who they wish to work with. This is not a fast and easy process, but surrounding yourself with Dragon symbols can help. Many Dragons will come to children for they find children in their innocents to be the most fun to work with and honest. Such many have found to have a Dragon like having a guardian angel if they remain honest and true to themselves. But just like humans Dragons can pick and choose friends and also get very temperamental with the ones they are working with.

So what is a Dragon?
The Mother Goddess has many secrets up her sleeves to help her keep the world in balance as much as possible. The fairy world would be one set of these creatures she uses as with Dragons. Such things do not exist as we do but inhabit an alternate plane which co-exists with us. Thus such sightings of these creatures are only seen by a few on the physical realm. Though it is also possible such creatures have gotten stuck in this physical world as we know it and legends and myths developed from such existence. They are multi-dimensional beings, existing in many worlds, universes, times and dimensions. Sometimes we manage to cross over into these other places during our spiritual seeking and this is where our meetings with Dragons occur.
They are part of the energy found all around us. One may never see but rather feel their presence. This will take time and much practice.

Why Use Dragons?
Because of the wisdom and elemental-type energies are unequaled and boundless. They are vessels of forgotten knowledge and information. Once befriended dragons make excellent protectors and powerful fellow magicians. Dragon magic must be respected as the creatures themselves just like all magic must be. Dragons can be just as if not more moody then the humans that work with them thinking of themselves first. They can be mischievous as a small child and just as temperamental. Dragons are thousands of years older and find humans to be just as troublesome. One as with all magic must work carefully with them.

So what is Dragon magic? Some Wiccans say that 'magic' is a means of inflicting one's will to cause physical manifestations or the creation of things or effects'.  To the Dragon, is this the case? Do we really create anything? If a sculptor takes a piece of marble and works away at it with hammer and chisel with consummate skill to produce a beautiful statue has he really created anything? (Or was the beauty already inherent in the stone?) Similarly the Bard, producing a wonderful piece of music - has he created anything? (Or were the sounds already there?)

To the Dragon the answers to those two questions would be a resounding NO! The marble already had the potential, the artist just rearranged it. The notes existed , the Bard just put them together. The Dragon stands immersed within the universe not just as an individual but within, and connected to, the greater world around them via Divinity. Hence you do not create anything, it has already been created as part of Creation itself - you merely re-arrange things via that linkage of Divinity.

So, the definition of Dragon magic would be: 'The use of the conscious will, in concert with the skill of your inner self, to re-shape, re-arrange or re-order Creation, via the linkage of Divinity, in order to cause change.' Thus Dragon magic is based in the intimate knowledge of one's connection to Creation via Divinity, and comes from the harmonization of one's self with the world around one. Once you can do that then all the rest, is just smoke and mirrors. Once you can do that, then it becomes easy to use one's conscious will, in concert with one's skill, to re-shape, re-arrange or re-order Creation in order to cause change, whatever this change may be ,healing, good fortune, etc. Remember to live and express oneself within the world is to enjoy the benefits of the knowledge that he or she is part of that world, functions within it and reaps the benefits of participating in it.

Dragon Magic is , I believe , one of the oldest magical workings in the world. Being the earliest it is the simplest and most pure and arose at a time when religiosity and hocus pocus had yet to cripple man’s mind. Our entire understanding of and relationship with the universe is governed by our body chemistry and, understanding this, Old Dragons compiled a series of exercises to which, of late, a vast amount of mumbo jumbo has been attached, by people who probably thought that it couldn’t, or shouldn’t, be that simple. Undoubtedly a great many dubious individuals have set themselves up as authorities on Magic. Having tried it and having also failed miserably to achieve anything, they have deduced that the formula were too simple and therefore there must be something lacking. It would not occur to them that it was they, and not the discipline, that was missing the vital components. In an attempt to make simple, straightforward, workable magic work for them, over the centuries they and their underachieving successors have added to it layer upon layer of pointless, unnecessary junk.

Dragons are not noted for being very cooperative or patient with insincere practitioners of magic. As with other types of spiritual and other world entities they quickly weed out the dedicated from the dabblers. Yet this is not to say they are so serious as well. Many a guardian or spiritual guide dragons can have quiet a sense of humor. Each one is individual if not more then we are and have all a specific focus much like the elements. Dragons are very good to work with in Elemental magic for most species have a link to one or more of the elements and all the things around us.

1)Not everyone is supposed to work Dragon Magic. Before you work with dragons, take some time to look at yourself. Do like dragons for who they are, or are you just interested in power? Do you feel you would do better in other area's of magic? If you feel dragon magic is not for you, then don't do it.

2)Dragons are not evil in anyway. If you think they are, your in the wrong place. Dragons are creatures of wisdom and knowledge, and provided great protection and can lend great power when needed, but only to help, never to harm.

3)Dragons are picky about who they work with. They know people's true intentions, and will only show themselves if they are sure that they can trust you.

4)Dragons will not work with silly things like love spells or anything of the sort.

5)Dragons are great with Protection and Healing Magic

6)Have fun!! Dragons love to relax after ritual. Dancing and Singing are their favorite ways to let loose.

7)Always be polite. Ask them to join you and thank them when they leave. They hate rude people.

These are just a few things you should know about dragons. After time, they will tell you want they want from you. Each person is different, and they will treat each person that comes looking differently. Always remember these rules.

By no means is this meant to be an actually ancient language past down from the past. This was my interpretation of what a Dragon may use as an alphabet from our own English alphabet. It was my logic a dragon would use a claw to write thus creating the alphabet I show below. Symbols can be very powerful and many people enjoy using writings and symbols in their magical workings.
